Solenoid Coil Test in Test Lab
From GlueXWiki
Notes and to-do lists for the solenoid coil tests this summer and fall.
Contents
Test Area
- Notes:
- Wayne is designing overall layout.
- Area in the test lab is 20'6" x 25'9", currently filled with coils and coil parts.
- May be able to get space in adjacent areas (QWeak construction and SRF cavity storage areas).
- May need extra space for large power supply (6' x 5') and switch, and to avoid placing controls racks in large B field.
- Must maintain clear areas around racks and power supply, and cannot block pedestrian walkways.
- Platform is 172" x 160", cryo can will sit on top.
- Platform must be removed to swap coils, and all connections to it must be broken.
- Area has two cranes, but need both (and spreader bar) to lift heaviest yoke (45 tons).
- Need come-alongs and anchors to move yokes and coils along rails.
- Some areas will need to be roped off due to high B fields (> 5 Gauss, for pacemakers)
- To Do:
- Look into getting space in adjacent areas - George
- Look into possibility of locating computer in control room - Elliott
- Distribute Floyd's B field map for single coil, no cladding - George
- Determine location of all components - Wayne
- Investigate sensitivity of electronic equipment to B fields - Elliott
- Find spreader bar - George
- Determine areas to be roped off due to high B field - Floyd, George
Infrastructure
- Notes:
- Platform borrowed from Hall A.
- Rails currently at IU.
- Have or can borrow all material moving equipment, or will contract out to rigging firm.
- Have or can borrow all tools needed.
- To Do:
- Produce overall system diagram - George
- Design structures and mechanical components, route cables and cryo piping, etc. - Wayne
- Arrange for piping designer - George
- Design piping to vent N2.
- Design warm and cold He supply/return systems, LN2 supply system.
- Order warm He and N2 piping - ?
- Retrieve rails from IU - ?
- Determine cryogen supply/return needs - George
- Arrange for cryogen supply/return with Dana Arenius - George and Elliott
Components
- Notes:
- To Do:
- Verify we have all cryo transfer lines and U-tubes - Mark S
- Verify we can borrow heat exchanger from Hall A - George
Programming
- Notes:
- Mark W will do all programming.
- Can borrow lots of code from Steve Lassiter and co.
- Single computer will perform all control and monitoring tasks.
- To Do:
- Install new memory in controls computer - Elliott and Mark W
- Purchase new software licenses - Elliott
- Install all software on controls computer - Mark W
- Borrow code from Steve Lassiter - Mark W
Staging
- Notes:
- Will instrument controls racks in F117, then move to Test Lab.
- Will instrument for final 4-coil system.
- To Do:
- Rearrange F117 - Mark S and Beni
- Get and move 3 racks into F117 - Mark S
Reviews
- Notes:
- Micro-review of PLC vendor choice completed, waiting for report.
- Need cryo, electrical, mechanical, and operations reviews.
- To Do:
- Write thank-you letter to Jonathan Creel and Omar Garza for participating in PLC vendor review - Elliott
- Write appropriate documentation - George, Mark S, Wayne and Elliott
- Set up all reviews - George and Elliott
Construction
- Notes:
- Do we have enough manpower?
- To Do:
Coil Tests
- Notes:
- Verify correct operation of all coils.
- Determine stresses up to full current (1600 A).
- Will take about one month per coil.
- Will take a few days to cool down a single coil.
- To Do:
- Create test plan - George
