Goals

The goal of this workshop will be to discuss the status of GlueX PID systems and plan for an upcoming PID review in the fall of 2007. This is part one of a two-part summer workshop. The second part is scheduled for July 26 and 27.

Focus points for the current workshop are:

  • identify final milestones/deliverables for PID review
  • on a subsystem level (FCAL, TOF, BCAL, etc..) identify critical tasks that must be accomplished leading up to review
  • assign available manpower to these tasks
  • identify milestones that can be discussed and presented at July workshop

Agenda

Please use the separate Wiki pages below to link material into the agenda for both days:

Discussion of Ultimate PID Review Milestones

Two milestones which have been discussed in the past are listed below. The first seems more appropriate for a PID review. However, the second will clearly probe things such as the impact of the FCAL/BCAL overlap region on the physics.

  • Using hit level Monte Carlo, demonstrate that the GlueX detector is capable of separating, with high purity, explicit rare final states that are key to hybrid study from more copiously produced backgrounds.
    • Requires:
      • full reconstruction of events
      • muti-detector charged particle PID
      • kinematic fitting
      • method of generating generic photoproduction background
    • Validates:
      • intrinsic detector resolution
      • detector material choices
      • global PID scheme

  • For a specific pure final state, generate Monte Carlo with exotic resonances and use an amplitude analysis package to extract these resonances.
    • Requires:
      • full reconstruction of events
      • method of generating MC with resonances
      • amplitude analysis package
    • Validates:
      • detector acceptance
