Abstract:
Applying a reasonable statistical FOM to Ryan's results in "A Survey of Final States ...", it seems the modest increase in signal events in an inclusive analysis is more than offset by an enormous increase in background events. Most of the FOM in the examined reactions resides in events with detected recoil protons, analyzed exclusively. Recoil proton detection is probably extremely important for weak, broad signals.
