Agenda

  1. Previous meeting: Mar 11, 2014
  2. Announcements
  3. Update on muon chamber mechanical design issues (Rory)
  4. Next meeting

Minutes

Attendees: David L., Elton S., Rory M.

  • Rory gave an update on the MWPC development
    • Considering two options for wire deadening in the beam region
      1. Use CuSO4 plating to increase the thickness of the wires and therefore decrease the gain. (This is what was done for the FDC chambers)
      2. Replace part of Al grounding plate with PCB with 1/16" Cu set to HV to reduce gain of wires in that region
    • Calculation of wire tensioning needed to counteract the force to the the electric field indicates only ~2.4g is needed
      • The field wires help here
      • May use something like 50g
    • Calculation of deflection of Al plates due to gas pressure was also done.
      • ~2cm deflection for nominal design
      • Some discussion and brainstorming of how to address this was had. Some ideas were:
        • Match chamber pressure with atmosphere and pump on the exhaust
        • Back the Al plates with honeycomb structure to reinforce it
        • Butt the chambers up next to the iron blocks to use them for reinforcement

Next Meeting

Rory will be traveling from the APS meeting on Apr. 8th we'll meet the week after on Apr. 15th.
