Agenda
- Previous meeting: Oct 31, 2013
- Announcements
- GARFIELD calculations (Sean M.)
- AOT
Minutes
Attendees: Rory M., Sean M., Ali, Megan, Elton S., Mark I., David L.
Next meeting
We'll meet next on Dec. 5th (skip Thanksgiving)
Prioritization PAC
- Elton thinks they are scheduling it in May (before regular PAC)
- Want a second workshop in April
- first workshop was theory focussed
- second workshop should focus on experimental aspects (beam line, software, detectors, ...)
- Prioritization PAC may look closely at readiness
- they will be trying to decide which experiments to run (they won't try changing scientific ratings)
Spring APS meeting
- Invited session approved for hadron polarizabilities (Volker Crede)
- Rory is considering several options for speakers given the constraints of APS rules
GARFIELD Simulations
- Simulations were done using 90%/10% Ar/CO2
- Field calculated assuming 10^5 gain using parameterization from Mac
- voltage on sense wire was ~1875V
- Original geometry had 1cm half-gap (1cm between sense wire and field wire)
- Maximum drift time (corresponding to 0.95cm from sense wire) was ~1μs
- Also looked at 5mm half-gap and 7.5mm half-gap
- For 5mm half-gap, maximum drift time was close to 500ns
- Currently investigating gas mixture 80/20 (some issues with GARFIELD crashing)
- Need to investigate what kind of spatial resolution we need to separate πs and μs
JLab experiment HPS
- Also need to separate πs and μs
- Looking for e+e- and μ+μ- vertices
- They are considering layers of iron and scintillator
- wave-shifting readout (fibers to multi-channel PMT)
- currently unfunded (MRI proposal written)
- Rory will communicate with some of the folks involved to find out where they are at and what they are thinking
Next Meeting
- How big do the detectors need to be?
- 2mx2m ?
- smaller is more convenient for restricted space
- How many layers?
Misc
- David will send Megan ROOT file with generated events
