Attending: Elton, Eugene, John L., John C., Yi, Sasha, Beni, Tim (Jlab); Will, Hayk, Javiera, Orlando Soto (USM); Zisis, George, Andrei (UofR); Christina (Athens).

  1. Announcements
  2. Review of Action Items
  3. Calorimetry Talks at the Collaboration Meeting
    1. Friday Feb. 17, 13:30 Session IVa (120) --- Calorimetry - (Organizer: Zisis Papandreou ) - Chair
      • Four talks scheduled. Offline will be discussed how the information is presented on the SiPM
  4. BCAL Beam Test
    1. Apparatus
      • Elton: The electronic boards and components have been received. Chris is getting them ready to send out and be populated. They should be ready for testing toward the end of next week
      • Will: Eighty light guides are being prepared for shipment tomorrow. Included are also 15 rectangular pieces and half a dozen test guides for gluing tests.
    2. Electronics (Sasha)
      • On hand: 48 channels of FlashADCs (Need: 32 channels for miniBcal + trigger and spares)
      • On hand: 32 channels of F1 TDC (Need: 32 channels from Beni)
      • On hand: 16 channels of Discriminator (Need: 32 channels, need to secure one more)
      • On hand: NIM bin + logic available
      • Need: trigger scintillators
      • Need: additional VXS crates, etc unless we can share with Fcal
    3. Schedule (John)
      • Next week Fcal and Hall B will conduct a joint test to establish electron energies into detector
      • 1-2 Weeks electron beam test
      • 1-2 weeks 2 pass photon beam
      • Target change, mid March
      • 1-2 weeks 3 pass photon beam
      • Remainder of time 5 pass photon beam (April/May)
      • Fcal would like to accumulate data in alcove at three energies
      • Perform all Flash DAQ tests before moving down to Hall B floor
    4. Paperwork (Zisis)
      • Prepare executive summary in the next few days so that Eugene can talk to Volker
      • DRAFT Proposal will follow later this week for feedback
  5. Update from Athens
    1. Submitted designs for all boards and submitted to JLab
      • Fernando will review and provide feedback
    2. Started to build first article
      • Boards should be received next week and can be populated
      • If possible the boards will be tested in Hall B with mini-Bcal
  6. Update from USM
    1. Run manager report
      • Testing has started in Stage 2 after some faulty starts and minor repairs of setup
      • So far measured six JLab SiPMs and more from Hamamatsu
      • Stage 3 refurbished to start testing
      • Amps with low gain replaced
      • Presently testing more JLab MPPCs
      • Added thermal pad (1 mm 2000S40) for half the sensors to check systematics
    2. Station 2 analysis (Sergey)
      • Revision of all data
      • Updated conversion factors based on photodiode data and spectral response
      • USM results compare favorably with Musienko data from CMS
      • Comparison of PDE, gain, DR and cross talk compares well with JLab data, although some systematic differences remain.
      • All parameters measured at Vbr+0.9 V. [Yi: JLab used the Hamamatsu proposed operating voltage, which was measured to be about Vbr+0.95V].
      • JLab gain about 5.5x10^5, USM gives about 5.0x10^5.
      • JLab PDE about 20%, USM gives about 24%
      • Sergey: Uniformity of PDE over the MPPC is very good
      • Yi: Compared the two methods of extracting PDE: N0 in ped vs full fit. Differences due to method is less than 1%.
    3. Station 3 analysis (Hayk)
      • New data shown. Data taken with <Npe>~2.5 compared to 1.5 for previous data.
      • Still need to remeasure some amplifiers
      • Fitting routine takes about 30 min/MPPC. Fast algorithm is about 6 times faster, but fitting will be used.
    4. Based on today's presentation, Elton will send message to the listserver approving production testing at USM. Full approval of Stage 1 and 2. Conditional approval of Stage 3 based on USM verifying proper thermal contacts of MPPCs to cooling plate.
    5. USM Web Interface to DB
  7. Status of Testing at JLab
    1. Hall-D ELOG
      • Preliminary data is now being taken. Chiller set to 10 deg C.
      • Two preamp boards populated (8 channels)
      • Problem with DC offset out of original board.
      • Revised board replaced resistor with a capacitor to eliminate baseline. Data shown are for the board with the capacitor.
      • Data shown for 200 ns gate. Signal to noise decreases as gate is increased.
    2. Spectra with Chiller ON
    3. Some photos
