Agenda

Minutes

Attendees: Igal, Arshak, Phil, Josh, Zisis, Jane, Liping, Vlad B., Tim W., Tim B., Sasha, S.T.

  • TEDF setup: almost ready to go, network connection still pending. Here are a couple of photographs: [1].
    • Safety documentation in the works...
    • Radioactive source needs container
    • Oven used for pre-shaping ESR wrapping is taking 1-2 hours to heat up was raised as a potential construction efficiency issue
      • Can be mitigated by planning the work appropriately.
      • Can in principle borrow usage of an oven owned by Hall B.
  • Lab has money for buying 600 more crystals, but might need a new contract
  • Contract with Wuhan is still not fully on the real sheet
  • Batch of PMTs all checked for dimensions, 18-20% do not meet our spec
    • Tim B. might take some PMTs back with him the week of 1/10- to do other checks at UNCW
  • We went over various items in Sasha's module fabrication materials spreadsheet
    • CMU is setting up to construct the steel PMT housing, when ready of mass production can produce ~150/month
    • Received quote for 350 micron mu-metal
    • Received several quotes for 50 micron mu metal
    • Considered using a few layers of 100 micron mu-metal instead of 350+50, might be an order of magnitude cheaper
    • Brass strips on order
    • 500 brass flanges on order
    • PMT tension plates: 2 samples in house, 3 quotes
    • Kapton is here
    • Two ideas for light guides: 18 mm diameter stock item verses 18.8 mm that would need to be machined: factor of 2 difference in price, machining would add $12k
  • Sasha reported results of his PMT anode current study.
    • Gain of 24 currently in use for CCAL is too high, could work with much lower gain, say 2-3x.
    • Maybe use this lower gain setting for the inner part of FCAL2, use "active bases without dividers" for rest?
    • Plan to do more studies with CCAL: 3x and 6x amplification
    • Baseline shifts are an issue in flashADC due to AC coupling
