Next Meeting

Same day as JLab Run-Around? 1:30 PM Wed 25-Apr-2012 CC F326

Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Vanik K, Mark I, Bryan M, Hovanes E, Beni Z.

TDR

Dave, Curtis and Elliott agree the "Computing" section needs to be split, most likely into two parts, one each for online and offline. Additional splits are possible.

JInventory Database

Elliott reported on recent developments in the component database. Elliott and the techs have been entering foundational information (buildings, rooms, etc). Unfortunately everyone is busy so there's little time to enter real hardware, but everyone seems committed to do this as the benefits down the road can be huge. Still to do are a cable database and better visualization of the various hierarchies.

Mini-Hbook

Sergey Boyarinov developed this for CLAS. He will give a presentation at the next Online meeting. This is a lightweight facility suitable for use in the ROCs where speed is paramount.

Counting House

Hovanes reported that the UPS was moved into the Counting House last week and installation is in progress. 480 V power needs to be run from the Utility room to the Rack Room. The UPS should be working next week. Giles is working on the under-floor power distribution. When that is done we can move racks in, install our network switch and run fibers between the Rack Room and the Telecom Room, and connect to the backbone switch there.

12GeV Project

Slow but continuous work on 12GeV docs, timelines, etc.

Elog and Accelerator Div

Folks in the Accelerator Div. have looked at Elog requirements from the four halls and are happy with them. Theo is working out how to upgrade the Elog to accomodate them. He is also considering using MySql instead of Oracle.

We are also considering transferring some EPICS projects from us to them, in particular for devices they will be controlling during accelerator operations. Hovanes will set up a meeting with them to discuss this.

DAQ Group

  • Vardan is making slow progress on ECS and CSS integration, but at least he has started.
  • Carl's work on the disentangler is still on hold, as he has to get CODA3 and EVIO version 4 out.
  • Dave's work on the raw event file is on hold, also has to get CODA3 out.
  • Three FADC125 modules are at JLab. Beni should get them within the next three or four weeks. Bryan has to update the readout library.

EPICS

  • Vanik has been working on stepper motor control using the XPS controller board. Driver and GUI are working. He will give a full report at a Controls meeting.
  • Hovanes has been looking at the CSS-based Alarm system, which looks pretty good. He may use it for the BCAL test.
  • Nerses is back in Armenia, and should return in four months. He will continue working on scalers and HV/LV control when he gets back.

FDC Test

Beni plans to run a multi-crate system within the next three or four weeks. He needs another crate (borrowed for other tests) and the three FADC125 boards.

Controls

  • UConn uses low-level Ethernet to control their boards. A special VPN will have to be set up to isolate their traffic. Alternatively a dedicated computer can be placed next to the boards that runs a private network to them.
  • Fernando wants to minimize the nubmer of FCC Class A devices in the hall. This is problematic for UPS's, as only small ones appear to exist that meet Class B and we need larger ones. Giles is working on this.
  • Yi ordered the National Instruments PXI system, should be here in a few weeks. It worked perfectly in all our tests, and was easily compatible with the PLC.
  • George started the FMEA for the solenoid.
  • Solenoid control drawings are being updated for the full system.
  • Josh has begun work on revising the PLC program.
