Next Meeting

1:30 PM Wed 20-Nov-2013 CC F326

Minutes

Present: Elliott W, Simon T, Mark D, Hovanes E, Alex S, Nerses G, Serguei P, Beni Z, Yi Q, Curtis M, Sean D, Justin S, Dave A, Carl T, Vardan G, Eugene C, Dave L.

Front End Firmware

Ed J is working on the firmware. The FADC250 firmware supports the standard readout format, he is working on the F1. Cody will get to the FADC125 at some point.

IOC's for Voltage Control

See Nerses' slides for complete details. Channels have both geographic (crate/slot/channel) and logical (BCAL/bias/...) names so he uses MySQL tables to hold and correlate these. The new EPICS backup/restore facility from JLab will be used.

Raid-to-silo transfer

Production system installed and tested. The CC uses our raid system as the staging device prior to copying files to tape. Multiple tape drives will be needed to keep up with our data rate.

RootSpy

Sean reported (see his slides) on improvements to RootSpy, update and use of the build system, archiving and scaled overlays and a to-do list. RootSpy works on multiple Linux operating systems as well as on MacOS.

Farm Manager

Vardan is near done developing the farm manager program, which is a client to run control and a master to the farm processes themselves. The codaObject facility is used for the farm manager client and for the farm processes, but with different messaging spaces. Current problems include starting and connecting to ET systems and ending runs properly.

CODA3

The DAQ group is coming closer to releasing CODA3 to /site and other places.

Telecom Fibers

Tom needs to get drawings to Jason so that Jason can get quotes from Shields.

Trigger Fibers

Chris will order fiber bundles as needed, they are made locally and have a one-week delivery time. He will install them as cable trays are installed and the areas are ready. The trigger racks can be moved in at any time.

Online Databases

Elliott is surveying needs and requirements, and is hoping to propose a somewhat unified strategy for online database use. Dmitry may have some opinion on how to achieve this (he should be here soon).

Trigger Configuration Database

This is Dmitry's main priority when he arrives, as this is needed soon.

Electronics

About one third of CTP and FADC125 boards have sever soldering problems, not sure how/when this will be resolved.

Controls

Dave B is steadily working on PLC's for FCAL and other detectors, as well as on improvements to the solenoid control system.
