New Action Items from this Meeting

Minutes

Attendees: Fernando B, Jim S, Simon T, Elke A, Carl T, Chris C, Elton S, Herun Y, Mark I, Graham H, Ben R, Abhishek G, Beni Z, Elliott W.

PMT Test

Werner is in town for a short time to perform tests on Hammamatsu fine-mesh PMT's using the BigBite magnet in Hall A.

  • Need clone of Beni's fiber test stand to take into Hall A.
  • Werner may only be allowed to run at night.

Fiber Test Stand

  • Beni is waiting for parts for the dark box. If they don't arrive soon he'll kludge something up for temporary use.
  • Also waiting for the source to arrive.
  • Otherwise everything else is here. Electronics and DAQ all working fine.

Electronics

Chris reported on many aspects of the electronics effort.

  • 9 FADC's exist, 8 stuffed with 10-bit at JLab, one partially stuffed with 12-bit at IU.
  • Everything fully Labview tested.
  • Firmware almost completed. What is done works well.
  • Final 12-bit FADC will use same architecture but will need redesign. Current ADC chip run too hot so will have to switch to a different one.
  • Ben is developing multi-crate test stand. Still need to develop CODA-based test stand.
  • TI - 4 modules done, being tested with multiple crates and modules. All H-D functionality implemented.
  • SD - schematics completed, optimization and routing in progress.
  • CTP - good progress on schematics, routing soon, CNU developed I2C part, prototype in FY09.
  • Have 20-slot dual-star VXW crate that meets all H-D specs.
  • Wiener purchased by Swiss firm, future status unclear, but likely to continue producing products for HENP
  • IU behind schedule on 125 MHz ADC, will get report from Gerard at next meeting.
  • Hope to get prototype in August.

Ben reported on testing FADC in test stand:

  • Single 10-bit module tests went well, board performs as designed.
  • Multi-crate tests coming soon using SD prototype.
  • 200 kHz test soon after firmware improved.

Fernando reported on other electronics projects:

  • ASIC vsn 2 finalized soon, boards in Mar-09.
  • FDC, CDC papers coming soon.
  • Cooling hardware test going quite well, lots of cooling capacity.
  • Working on simulation of CDC and FDC pulses.
  • Received new SiPM electronics boards and some 3x3 SiPM arrays, others coming.
  • CAEN 64-chan LE discriminator may be coming soon.
  • F1 chip now obsolete, last order by 20-Nov. About $220k. No good alternatives known. What are CERN and the ILC using?

DAQ

Graham reported on DAQ group progress:

  • CODA3 development schedule now in P3E.
  • Not enough manpower to meet the schedule! New DAQ group hires approved, but no money! Need two new people.
  • Dave A is working on PCI drivers for Linux TI board. First round FADC readout library working but needs improvement.
  • Graham making steady progress on EMU, data concentrator working, need integration with run control.
  • EMU on track for Sep-08 PED deliverable.

Controls Status

Elliott reported on progress of DCS, SCADA, and ECS components of controls system. See link above for details.

  • DCS - met with JLab controls engineers and are developing hardware strategy. Testing dependent on when hardware starts arriving (power supplies, etc).
  • SCADA - no progress, some people think EPICS not needed for this layer.
  • ECS - progress in AFECS and COOL development, continuing improvements to cMsg, successful test with 1000 components.
  • Need real applications to make progress on all three layers, some are coming.
