Goals for Calorimetry Group

  1. Determine preliminary photon reconstruction efficiencies as a function of E, phi and theta in data and simulation with a point-to-point precision of at least 5%.
  2. Measure systematics of pi0/eta mass calibration as a function of detector position to a precision of at least 5 MeV.
  3. Demonstrate agreement of photon reconstruction efficiency and resolution between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.

  2. Run Operations
    1. FCAL: Mark reported that 10 FCAL bases were replaced. The stockpile has decreased but the team is working to keep it up; the testing on the stand in EEL takes about 1 month. New boards have been installed on approximately 1/2 of the FCAL.
    2. BCAL: hot channels in the BCAL, possibly due to baseline drifts. This affects monitoring as it can suppress the occupancy plot scales. "Really" hot ones can affect the efficiency unless taken care of properly in ccdb. Some failures in the past were due to temperature variations. The DAQ/FADC is the fragile part of this operation. We are considering this as an action item during the shutdown next year; it has been added to the long-term items.
    3. CCAL: no report.
  3. Calibration:
    1. BCAL: Karthik has been training Stjepan (new Regina PhD student on EIC) on the pi0 gain calibration.
    2. FCAL: Igal reported on the FCAL calibration efforts. The FADC range of 2V is too large for many channels. A lengthy discussion ensured, including looking at raw data pulses for saturation, changing the HV from 2V to 1V range, recalibrating more frequently, and using cosmics for gains estimates. As a reminder, calibrations up to ring 22 are good but 23 and 24 are not.
  4. Monitoring
    1. Varun gave a brief update on the BCAL LEDs. Gorups of LEDs that were not firing before have recovered. Mark suggested that this behaviour could be a readout window edge effect. Shift workers could look at the LED raw mode.
    2. BCAL (offline)
      1. Tolga presented follow-up to occupancy monitoring early-late October, looking at plots before the PS screens were installed (Oct 7), between Oct 7-20, and after Oct 20. For PrimEx runs, BCAL was not in the trigger and only the occupancy plots should be looked at.
    3. FCAL (offline)
  5. Reconstruction
    1. Churamani gave an update on "BCAL PHOTON SHOWER" with the tag-and-probe method, using a photon gun and the TRAJ flag (with help from Jon). The drop in the efficiency should be correlated with material due to the chambers inside the BCAL. Jon has a script that could help with this.
  6. Simulations: no report.
