Goals for Calorimetry Group

  1. Determine preliminary photon reconstruction efficiencies as a function of E, phi and theta in data and simulation with a point-to-point precision of at least 5%.
  2. Measure systematics of pi0/eta mass calibration as a function of detector position to a precision of at least 5 MeV.
  3. Demonstrate agreement of photon reconstruction efficiency and resolution between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.

Attending: Edmundo, Karthik, Varun, Zisis, Sean, Churamani, Colin, Tolga, Matt, Rebecca, Susan, Mark

  1. Announcements
    1. We will look at a new day/time for this meeting as some folks have time conflicts.
    2. MEDCON5 will continue at the lab throughout the long shutdown so at least until May.
  2. Action Items
    1. Short term: nothing to report
    2. Long term: data for Item 1 (FCAL LED) taken; Susan will look at it.
    3. Calorimetty Work Packages: these will discussed and the tables will be updated.
      • Item 2: Karthik will use a new bggen sample to check the z-dependence. Previously there was an error in the code and this will be looked at.
      • Item 5: this method is not feasible for the BCAL and will be removed from the table.
      • Item 10: Tolga is waiting until Simon progresses furthur with his neutrals analysis before working on this.
      • Item 4: Matt reported that Rebecca is turning the handle on this, following Jon's initial pass on one data set. With updates to MC, Rebecca will look at all data sets and look at how bad channels affect the reconstruction efficiency.
  3. Run Update
    1. FCAL: all green
    2. BCAL: nominal
  4. Monitoring
    1. BCAL LED: Summer 2020 monitoring looks good so far. No new anomalies (other than the channels 1118 and 1405, reported previously.) The crate reboot seems to have fixed the FP triggers.
    2. BCAL (offline): Tolga reported that the BCAL occupancy plots are not loading. Sean asked him to notify Thomas.
    3. FCAL (offline): Susan reported, and the hit time RMS, hit average energy and structure in the upper left quadrant of the FCAL continue to be problematic. Also, JANA errors and warnings for certain runs are being collected in a Google doc. Once completed, Susan will send to Sean who will push it to experts to investigate. It appears that problems do not happen at the beginning of the run but more middle to end. If files towards the end are affected, the Software Group and look at excluding specific files from a run.
  5. Calibration
    1. PRIMEX-D phase 1 FCAL daily gains matching: Igal posted plots for 27 out 38 days done (the 10 missing days correspond to no beam or empty target runs). Folks can look at those offline.
    2. Summer 2020 Gain Calibrations (Karthik): The first few iterations look smooth with the pi0 mass being off a bit. Mark mentioned that things may change so too much effort should no be expended on polishing the gains at this stage. Karthik will do a few more iterations and then pause and await for further instructions.
  6. Efficiency
    1. Elton's work is ongoing.
    2. Rebecca has done a first pass looking at the FCAL efficiencies.
    3. Sean requested that this group concludes this work by mid October. If needed, ad hoc meetings can be held in between CALWG meetings.
  7. Reconstruction: nothing to report.
  8. Simulations nothing to report.
  9. Any other business: Sean asked that a summary of BCAL runs having issues be gathered and passed to him, as reporting on problem runs is spread over many presentations and hard to find.
