Goals for Calorimetry Group

  1. Determine preliminary photon reconstruction efficiencies as a function of E, phi and theta in data and simulation with a point-to-point precision of at least 5%.
  2. Measure systematics of pi0/eta mass calibration as a function of detector position to a precision of at least 5 MeV.
  3. Demonstrate agreement of photon resolution between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.
  4. Demonstrate agreement of photon reconstruction efficiency between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.

    1. Churamani: Jon's input worked well for new MC sample with high statistics in the BCAL coverage. Efficiency from new MC sample will be extracted soon and compared with results from data[1]

  1. Announcements: The run ends on December 19.
  2. Past Meeting Minutes: no review; meetings were too old as a couple of CALWG meetings were cancelled.
  3. Review Action Items: items had been cleaned up over the last few weeks.
  4. Run Operations
    1. FCAL: Malte reported that routine base replacements continue.
    2. BCAL: Mark reported that an FADC module was replaced with a refurbished one from the spare spool, but it has a faulty channel. It will be repaired or replaced soon.
    3. CCAL: no report.
    4. FCAL2: Malte reported that there will be extensive tests over the holidays, that involve ramping up the voltage and try to see if any bases push over the edge. A large stockpile of refurbished bases is being prepared. A detail plan for all the unstacking of the FCAL blocks is underway. Mark added that this includes cables as well as using man lifts instead of ladders (that were used for the original stacking of the blocks).
  5. Calibration: no report.
  6. Monitoring:
    • BCAL: Varun mentioned that occasionally the trigger bit did not function, which Mark tends to. Mark developed a new script which will check for this failure, try to correct it, and notify Mark when it occurs.
    • FCAL: Susan showed plots of the efficiencies from CPP runs based on Summed Integrals ("raw") versus Summer energies ("calibrated"). The former looks more stable but occasional crosses over the limits used for the efficiency, showing then efficiency of 0. The latter stays within the bands, but has fluctuations. Igal and Susan are discussing this. Mark added that CPP is the hardest experiment to calibrate as Igal said that even getting the pi0 peak cleanly is challenging.
  7. Reconstruction: Churamani noted above that new efficiencies will be available soon, based on Jon's new MC sample.
  8. Simulations: no report.
