Minutes
Attendees: Sasha, Arshak, Phil, Igal, Malte, Jane, Jon, Liping, Azizah, Bill, Zisis, Axel, S.T.
- Arshak presented progress on measuring cross talk due to LMS plexiglas plate using 3x3 setup in PS test stand in hall
- PbW04 module in center, dummies with just ESR wrapping on left and right, long light guides on top and bottom
- Front face blocked on one side of center, open on other side
- Light guides still present for dummies
- Secondary lepton beam hits ~center of crystal, in coincidence with PS tile
- Could be centered a little better
- Almost the same amplitudes of signals on left and right tubes = almost no cross talk
- Small asymmetry is seen -- suggest swapping which face is closed
- Could do test without light guides on left and right
- Look at energy distribution of possible cross talk?
- Redo test with a true 3x3 prototype of crystals?
- COMCAL will be disassembled next year -- leave a 5x5 array for tests with new PMT dividers?
- Still continuing to receive Crytur crystals, expect more by end of year, and expect new batch in May of next year
- Wrapping of existing crystals continues -- 30 more to go
- Mindy from detector support group soldering wires to PMT sockets
- Inventory of parts needed for module fabrication looks good
- Grand total fabricated modules = 1371, hope for 1400 by end of year
- Bench tests for PMT dividers (two versions: bypassed amplifier and 3x amplifier) ongoing
- Concern: NPS experience with higher gain amplifier (20x vs 3x) = large noise level, 200 MHz frequency -- do we need to be concerned? Probably not due to smaller gain amplifier
- Noise tests inside FCAL dark room
- With bypassed amplifier: FCAL HV off: low noise; FCAL HV on: some noise spikes
- With 3x amplifer: see CANBUS activity and higher amplitude noise level with FCAL HV off, increases with FCAL HV on
- Still looks like ~3 mV threshold should be possible
- Bring 3x3 crystal prototype into dark room?
- Use shielded cables for CANBUS?
- Need to give green light to Fernando regarding PMT divider order soon
- Patch panel design: separation of HV and LV
- List of summer students is growing:
- 2 from Lamar, 2 from URegina, up to 4 from UNCW, 1 from GWU
- Lab will support students at some level
- Sasha anticipates needing 11 students for 3 months
