Goals for Calorimetry Group

  1. Determine preliminary photon reconstruction efficiencies as a function of E, phi and theta in data and simulation with a point-to-point precision of at least 5%.
  2. Measure systematics of pi0/eta mass calibration as a function of detector position to a precision of at least 5 MeV.
  3. Demonstrate agreement of photon resolution between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.
  4. Demonstrate agreement of photon reconstruction efficiency between data and simulation as a function of E, phi and theta to within 5%.

Minutes

Attendees: Elton, Mark, Maltę, Simin, Igal, Sean, Stjepan, Bradley, Ilya, Rory, Matt, Jon, Zisis

  1. Announcements: none.
  2. Past Meeting Minutes: Zisis reviewed these quickly. The only item of interest was the CPP/NPP calibration, discussed below.
  3. Review Action Items: Mark and Zisis pruned these and Zisis will contact people offline.
  4. Detectors
    1. FCAL/ECAL: Malte reported that the refurbishment of the modules continues. Bradley and Ben (undergraduates) are helping Malte and Mark with the task of matching good bases to good PMTs, and turning as many blue modules into green ones as possible. Even at present, there are enough modules to start stacking/
    2. BCAL: no report.
  5. Calibration
    1. CPP/NPP: See Mark's log entry 4161639. Igal introduced the discussion item, which is that no pi0 can be seen in Layer 3 , and of course also not in Layer 4. CPP/NPP had 1/4 of the CDC off and the target in a different position (60 cm upstream of the standard GlueX target centre), which complicates the calibration, as the BCAL calibration needs tracks. Mark went over his logbook entry and explained that multiple BCAL cells fire, with amplitude giving energy and time gives positions (and back to time). Options discussed: i) use a standard (and good) GlueX BCAL calibration with good tracking, ii) use a PrimEX calibration (lower stats that GlueX but better than CPP), iii) use calibration constants from the good parts of BCAL in CPP (roughly 3/4 of it), iv) exclude the bad 40% BCAL from CPP, which will reduce statistics, v) empty target subtraction, vi) look at cosmics (original analysis was done by Tegan and Andrei in 2018 - Zisis will contact them). Mark is worried about the timing offsets (channel by channel) more than the gain constants. Mark discussed the quadratic fits (linear term is 1/2 effective speed of light in the fibers) so any small changes in the constants means that two or three of the terms in the equation might vary. Igal asked about dedicated cosmics runs, and Regina will help locate them. Perhaps the track requirement can be relaxed; Igal will look into this. Mark suggested to check correlation of track with projection position. Mark asked Sean about nputtin new histos in the monitoring plugins, and Sean said ok. Mark will look at the PrimEx calibration and see if it can be used.
  6. Monitoring: no report.
  7. Reconstruction: no report.
  8. Simulations: no report.
  9. Any other business: none.
